Homeschooling

We pulled Cassie out of the charter school in January 2010. We have been homeschooling since and absolutely love it.

She started 8th grade in May 2015, so far we are on track. We decided to actually take 2 months off this summer to give her a nice break in her Summer schedule. She's continuing with the HOPE Co-Op and her Irish Dance classes 2 days a week, plus Cheerleading this fall.

I know that homeschooling isn't for everyone or every child, however this choice has been perfect for us and I can't think of a better way to enjoy my child.

Our Curriculum
 On this page you will find our current curriculum plans for the Start of 2015 school year.

All Subjects – We are using a few websites this year, Monarch Internet school and ABCteach.com. ABCteach is a site for teachers and homeschools to print off curriculum in the different subjects based on grade or level.

History/Geography – We are doing projects called Discovering History. Cassie will pick 10 historical era's or events and do a detailed report on each. She's decided to focus this year with her lessons being history driven.

Reading – Reading aloud is so important to our family! We read in history, we read in science, we read literature just because we can, and then we have chapter books. Oh, and audio books are listened too from time to time.  

Theater- She will take this at the Co-Op, along with our towns theater company. This will be her 2nd year with them.

Art- Well art is always whatever Cassie wants to do. She will focus on photography this year again 

Service Learning- This year as a family we decided to participate with the Soldiers Angels program (similar to a pen pal). She's going to continue with her Y volunteering as well.

Foreign Languages – We focus on two foreign languages in our home. We do American Sign Language with Signing Time. We also learn French through the Monarch Internet school . Cassie has some fun with new apps on her tablet for German, Irish (Gaelic), Italian and Mandarin.  

Health -  

Cooking –  She will take this at the Co-Op and at Ms. Heather's house

Math – We will be using the Monarch Internet school and Math u See

Spelling –  

Science – Cassie adores science and this area is usually entirely her choice. She picks topics and I make sure to provide the resources. She’s studying Oceanography and Marine Biology. We also use the Science fusion books that the Middle school and Jr High use. She has a microscope and telescope that she will be using this year and we will focus on science experiments.
