Homemade Laundry Soap

I got this recipe and copied the page off this link http://beingcreativetokeepmysanity.blogspot.com/2010/11/homemade-laundry-soap.html#comments

Cassie and I are going to make this up today. I'm excited to try it out. Hey as a single mom, I'm all for saving a little $. Even if its not THAT much of a savings for us. *Follow-up - We really liked it. It took us almost a year to use this up.

$20 for a years worth of laundry soap. We do about 3 loads a week at our house so I'm pretty sure it will last the year (the woman that I got this from does 8 loads a week and it lasted her 9 months)

Here is what you need:
1 4 lb 12 oz box Borax found in the detergent isle

1 4 lb box Arm & Hammer Baking Soda found in the cooking isle

1 box Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda 55 oz (3 lb 7 oz) found in the detergent isle

3 bars of Fels-Naptha soap, found in the detergent isle

2 small containers of Oxy Clean or store brand Oxy Clean (try to get about 3.5 lbs total found in the detergent isle. (this is optional)

(you can also use pink Zote soap instead of Fels-Naptha. pink Zote soap at Home Depot or the dollar store)

You should be able to find all of these items at your grocery store.

**Use 1-2 Tablespoons per load. I know that does not seem like enough but this recipe does not have fillers like the store bought detergent so you only need 1-2 Tablespoons.**

This detergent is fairly mild smelling, it is not over powering. If you love a strong scent you may have to add a fabric softener to each load. **You can add Purex Crystal Softener to the powder mix which is what I'm doing**

Start out by grating your Fels-Naptha soap just like cheese. You can use a food processor or just use your hand held grater, what ever you have. ** some have put it in the microwave and then let it cool, when you touch it its supposed to turn to powder, I MIGHT try this**
**Don't worry the Fels-Naptha will dissolve in your washer even if you only use cold water.**

Toss all ingredients in a 5 gallon bucket lined with a garbage bag. Once everything is mixed store soap however you like.

The glass jars can be found at walmart.

**They say this is safe for HE washers, but you might have to add it into the drum instead of the dispenser depending on how finely grated the soap is. People responded onto the woman's page saying that they have one and have used this for a few years without problems. Feel free to checkout her page for additional comments and replies, there's info on sensitive skin and cloth diapers. Also, I guess this doesn't suds up like most do' but not to worry cause it really is still cleaning the clothes**

Weigh In week 2

I just might beat that scale yet. I lost 1 lb this week. Ok so it's just 1 lb, but at this point I'm happy for any loss. I'm down 2.4 lbs from my start 2 weeks ago. At this rate it's still going to take me FOREVER to lose the 83 lbs I started out to lose. But hey the scale is going in the right direction now, so I suppose I shall let it live another week ;)

Weight

My weight is the result of my past life – the mistakes, regrets, grief, pregnancies and also all the moments spent with family and friends spent around food. I am still carrying around the baggage of my yesteryear's. It's a daily struggle to make good food choices and to workout. Although I’m not working out the way I should. I have an elliptical that I use while watching TV, unfortunately I haven't been watching any. Ok so that's probably a good thing. A free gym membership that I've used once since given the green light to workout. I have DVD's that I do 3 days a week, so that's something. Even with my good eating habits that number isn't budging and I'm about to throw that stupid evil machine (yes I am aware that it's not the scales fault). I need to get my butt in gear and kicked up a notch.

Work weeks meals

Spent 2 hours making up my meals for the next 4 days. Ok so 3 days because we had the 4th day today. This should help with some of the bad eating that I'm prone to when I'm left with the "what do I eat" issue. I needed things that would travel well and reheat nicely if needed.

Friday:
Oatmeal for breakfast, Chickpea Salad sandwich for lunch, Chili and cornbread for dinner and roasted pears with greek yogurt and granola for dessert.

Saturday:
Fruit smoothie for Breakfast, Chili and cornbread for lunch, Spinach chickpea triangles for dinner and a WW's fudge bar for dessert.

Sunday:
Fruit smoothie for breakfast, Chickpea salad sandwich for lunch, Veggie pizza for dinner and brownie with coconut ice cream for dessert

I'll have plenty of chili that I will be freezing half of it for another time.

Weight Watchers

I canceled my weight watchers membership this afternoon. I went to a meeting once in the 3 weeks that i've been doing it, haven't lost anything and figured that I could use the $43 a month towards something else. I'm quite happy with my decision. Weight watchers is a good system, but the new plan just isn't for me. I'm finding out I have way too many points left and its just not flexible in that regard. I'm also spending way to much of my day stressing over the points and feel like i'm always thinking about food. I'm going to focus more on my workouts and less about what I am eating. before you all freak out..I do plan on switching from counting ww's points to counting calories. so i'm not completely throwing my diet out the window ;) I will be planning my meals out in advance that way all I need to focus on is what my menu says.

Jillian Michaels 6 week six pack

I am not a fan of this DVD. I tried it today and so far its my least favorite of her videos. Maybe when i lose more weight I might like it, but right now most of the moves are too difficult for a beginner. Oh well, I shall move on to my other one tomorrow. I've been torturing myself with reviews/blogs about her 90 day body revolution and really want to try it. Unfortunately for me its $134 (or 4 monthly payments of $30 plus shipping) and I'm already paying $43 a month for weight watchers. I'm bummed because I could have saved the $10 from the one I just tried and put that into a fund to purchase this. I thought that DVD would be a good alternative to this program and I could just switch up my DVD's to get sort of the same results. WRONG :( So now I feel like I wasted money.

Because sometimes we all need a visual
